The City of Raleigh has closed Lake Wheeler Park to water-based recreation due to elevated levels of bacteria.
Wake County officials routinely test recreational lakes for bacteria. The city said a recent test found elevated levels of bacteria based on the United States Environmental Protection Agency standards.
The city said the lake is closed to "primary contact recreation," which is any activity where your head may go underwater.
Lake Wheeler will remain open to fishing, sailing, kayaking, rowing and other boat rental opportunities.
