Sea Gull, Seafarer camps relocating to Raleigh as Arthur approaches

Posted: Updated:

Two well-known camps near the North Carolina coast are relocating hundreds of kids to Raleigh as Hurricane Arthur approaches.

Camp Sea Gull for boys and Camp Seafarer for girls, which are located about half an hour from New Bern, are relocating their campers to Raleigh Thursday afternoon after lunch at the camps.

The camps are located in Arapahoe and have been popular with North Carolina children for decades.

Jennifer Nelson, spokeswoman for the YMCA of the Triangle, said the children will be housed in three Raleigh schools.

“The good news is we’ve done this before,” Nelson said. “It’s been a while, but it’s kind of an adventure. We anticipate that they will be back tomorrow.”

Nelson would not say which three schools will house the children.

Hurricane Arthur is expected to strengthen to a Category 2 Hurricane and come ashore on the Outer Banks in the early hours of Friday morning.
