A local man is dead after a single car accident late Friday night.

NC State Highway Patrol tells 9 On Your Side, 32-year-old Kelsie Applewhite of Greenville, hit a utility pole and died on impact.

Troopers say alcohol and speed were factors.

According to witnesses, the car was speeding when it came around a curve, hit a ditch, went airborne and hit a utility pole.

It happened on Conetoe Road, near Wayne’s Village Lane in Pitt County around 11:00 pm Friday night.

The witnesses say Applewhite was unresponsive and emergency crews had to cut him out of the car.
