Busch Gardens Tampa rescues American Bald Eagle

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Staff from Busch Gardens Tampa rescued a southern American Bald Eagle on the Fourth of July at Macdill Air Force Base in Tampa.

The eagle was found, unable to fly. Military police along with a local animal rehabilitator assisted in the rescue.

Busch Gardens' veterinary staff determined that the eagle had an injury to a wing due to broken bones.

Staff wrapped the bird’s wing in red, white and blue bandage tape until surgery was performed.

Surgery was performed on the bird Monday morning at the park’s Animal Care Center.

A spokesperson from Bush Gardens says the eagle will remain under the watch of staff at the Animal Care Center for the next four to six weeks and then will be moved to a rehabilitation facility.
