Surveillance video shows Richmond hostage escape assailant with gun to head

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Explosive security video shows a terrifying robbery and abduction attempt at the Midlothian Motor Company, during broad daylight. The victim, a mechanic, managed to outsmart and overtake the attacker, who was holding a gun to his head.

The video shows a the suspect, a man wearing a red jersey, meandering through the parking lot of the auto shop, right off the Midlothian Turnpike. The armed gunman makes his way into the reception area, scoping out the register. Moments later, the he confronts the lone mechanic in the garage.

Owner Al Hosn watched the frightening scenario on his security cameras, following the scenario.

"(The suspect) pulled the gun from underneath his shirt and told the mechanic to come and get the cash register open for him," described Hosn.

The gunman ushered the mechanic into the office with his hands up. The suspect demanded the employee empty the register. Next, he ordered him to hand over his wallet. However, the employee only had a debit card.

The gunman forced the mechanic into the parking lot, and into a company Porsche. He ordered the employee drive to an ATM. However, what the mechanic did next potentially saved his life.

The mechanic pretended to have trouble driving the Porsche, so he wouldn't be forced to have to drive somewhere with the suspect, at gunpoint.

"The mechanic had an opportunity to get the gun away from him (after) jerking his clutch," described Hosn.

Security video shows the car jerking in the parking lot. Hosn says the mechanic was able to get the gun away from the attacker, and fight back.

"(The mechanic) pushed the gun away from his face and started beating (the assailant) with his left hand," continued Hosn.

However, the suspect viciously bit the mechanic's arm. Still, the victim was able to flee the car. The suspect also took off, appearing to hobble from the scene. He's still at large.

The mechanic is in the hospital with serious bite wounds to his arm.
