NC lawmakers back at work after brief walk-out

RALEIGH, N.C. -

During a conference committee meeting to resolves difference about the state budget, North Carolina Senate lawmakers walked out, citing procedural concerns.

After nearly 30 minutes, the senators came back into the room and work continued on the budget.

The House and Senate are trying to resolve how to fund teacher raises. The Senate wants an 11-percent increase, but would cut teacher assistant positions. The House has proposed a 5-percent increase without cutting teacher assistants. The House proposal would us money from the North Carolina Education Lottery.

Senators say the money from the lottery is not guaranteed revenue.
