SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. -

Southern Pines police arrested a man for the June 29 murder of Floyd Elmer Williams.

Marshall Tristan Shaw, 27, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, police said.

At approximately 11:45 p.m. June 29, an officer responded to a report of gunshots in the 100 block of S. Hardin Street. The officer found Williams lying in the street and a large crowd in the area, according to a printed statement from the department. The officer believed Williams was dead from a gunshot wound.

Officers were still at the scene hours later, according to a community notice sent out at 3:48 a.m.

Pinehurst police, Moore County deputies and Aberdeen police assisted "with crowd control and other activities associated with securing the crime scene," the statement read.

Shaw is being held at the Moore County Detention Center and has a scheduled court date of July 22.
