Groundbreaking Thursday for new safety center in Raleigh

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

Raleigh City leaders will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for the new Public Safety Center in Raleigh.

The new center is going up on North Raleigh Boulevard.

The four-story building will house the Raleigh-Wake Emergency Communications Center, the Emergency Operations Center, the Traffic Control Center and Data Center.

The new center is a scaled down version from a previous plan for a high-rise safety center downtown that had a price tag of $175 million. That project was deemed too expensive and too unsecure.
