FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

The Red Cross is assisting two families in Fayetteville after a fire broke out at an apartment at the Stewart Creek Community Thursday.

The fire broke out just before 5 p.m. Thursday in a three-story- apartment at 6772 Willowbrook Drive.

An initial investigating shows that the fire appeared to have started in the laundry room. When firefighters arrived, smoke was billowing out of the second-floor of the apartment building.

The apartment sustained fire damage to the laundry room and kitchen, but two additional apartment units were damaged by smoke.

No one was injured and the Red Cross is helping the two families.
