DURHAM, N.C. -

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that a woman who was shot at the Scottish Inn in Orange County Wednesday was the victim of a May kidnapping by the same suspect.

The woman was identified Thursday at Amber Leigh Gottschalk of Durham County.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said Gottschalk was shot around 4:46 p.m. Wednesday at the Scottish Inn on Highway 70 East at the Orange and Durham County line. When authorities arrived, she was lying on the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds.

The sheriff's office charged Shenandoah Freeman, of Durham, with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Freeman was served with a warrant at the Wake County Detention Center, where he was being held on charges of kidnapping in Durham County.

Police said Freeman was arrested during a traffic stop in connection with a May 9 kidnapping and assault where Gottschalk was the victim in that case.

The investigation into the shooting is still on going.
