ECU graduate student enrollment declining

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina University's graduate program leaders are changing how they recruit students as its enrollment numbers decline.

Over the past five years, enrollment dropped by more than 1,000 graduate students.

Paul Gemperline, Ph.D and dean of the graduate program, said the drop's due partly to less students enrolling in online courses.

As more universities offer online classes, ECU is forced to change its recruiting strategy.

"Online students have a choice nowadays," Gemperline said. "In the future, their choices are going to be based on quality and the value."

ECU plans to up their marketing and will be adding new graduate programs based on in-demand career fields.
