MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The body of an 11-year-old drowning victim who went missing in the ocean Saturday was located Monday morning.

Myrtle Beach Police Captain David Knipes confirmed the body was found at about 2 a.m. near 11th Ave. South and the beach.

The boy was identified as 11-year-old Omarion Williams of Scotland Neck, North Carolina, where he lives with his mother, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler. Williams was swimming after hours, and there was no lifeguard on duty at the time of his disappearance.

Williams reportedly went missing in the ocean near 2001 South Ocean Boulevard Saturday evening around 8:30 p.m. On Saturday night, the Coast Guard was called in to help locate the boy.

According to Beth Steele with the Coast Guard, the boy was swimming with his friends on a boogie board when they watched the 11-year-old go under the water. They reportedly did not see the boy resurface.

The Coast Guard was called out by Myrtle Beach and Horry County Police Departments to the scene to aide in their search efforts. The Coast Guard brought in their helicopter to help in locating the boy until 12:20 a.m.

The Coast Guard resumed the search Sunday morning with a fixed wing airplane until their assistance was called off.

On Sunday, police classified the mission as a body recovery mission. Crews continued searching throughout the night.

An official autopsy of Williams is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
