Vendors upset after thrift mall closes its doors

PHENIX CITY, Ala. -

Vendors from a local thrift mall are outraged Sunday afternoon after it seems the management picked up and left locking all their possessions inside. News 3's Naomi Keitt met with several concerned vendors outside the A and K Thrift Mall in Phenix City Sunday afternoon. Vendors say they were in complete shock when they saw a sign that said, "The A and K thrift mall is temporarily closed." The store has been in the area a little more than 2 years. Vendors pay a monthly fee to sell their goods and management gets a commission off of all the products sold.

Just this Friday some vendors says they came to check on their belongings as usual but the signs were in place and the doors were locked. At first they assumed there was a death in the family that caused management to close the doors temporarily but after coming back for 2 more days, they fear the owners are gone for good.

"I just cannot believe that that happened. They appeared to be very nice folks I just had no idea," said vendor Belinda Stinson.

Looking through the glass doors at the store, you can see there are still several items inside. Vendors say they just want management to open the doors so they can retrieve their belongings. They say they've reached out to both the owner and his wife but all of their numbers were disconnected. Many of the people who were at the store Sunday say they use the money they earn from the thrift mall to supplement their income.

Phenix City police say they have received several calls about the store closing but they have no information that any criminal activity has happened so the vendors will have to wait to hear from the owner.
