RALEIGH, N.C. -

A former softball coach at Wakefield High School will spend up to 21 months behind bars after pleading guilty to 11 counts of sex offenses against a child on Monday.

The charges stem from a relationship Jamie Ayers had with a player. Ayers taught physical education and coached softball at Wakefield.

According to arrest warrants, criminal violations began in June 2011 and lasted through March 2013.

Ayers had worked for the Wake County Public School System since 1998. He worked at Cary High, East Cary Middle, Wakefield Middle and then Wakefield High.
