Dwight Jones trying to maintain momentum at Harris County

Posted: Updated:
HAMILTON, Ga. -

Change is in the air for Harris County football.

But hopefully not too much.

Dwight Jones takes over a team that has seen its season end at the hands of the eventual state champions two years running.

“I’m inheriting a great football team right now,” Jones said. “They've had two great years, back to back, and now we're just trying to build on that. Got a great group of seniors that's coming in, have 27 of those guys, and they've bought into what we've tried to do so far so we're looking forward to it."

Jones is making an impact on his team, without question.

“He’s definitely big on teamwork and holding the rope” said senior defensive tackle Blake Jones. “Holding the rope means you pick up your teammates when they're down and you do anything that you possibly can to better them and yourself."

The new coach has just a couple simple expectations for his team: Play hard and be disciplined.

“We feel great about him,” said quarterback and Georgia Tech commit TaQuon Marshall. “He’s bringing some great stuff in the summer and practice is going real well, so I feel like he’s going to push us to that next level.”

Harris County opens the season against Central.
