A burglary suspect is recovering after he was shot during a break-in.

Deputies tell 9 On Your Side on August 7, 2014, around 4:30a.m., Wayne County Deputies were dispatched to a house on Providence Church Road in Goldsboro in reference to a break-in and a shooting.

When Deputies arrived, 28-year-old Christopher Todd Brogden was found shot once in the upper chest. The investigation shows that the resident, Paige Ham, heard a noise in the back of her house. When she looked out of the window and saw that the lock was missing from her storage building, Deputies say Ms. Ham had her roommate call 911 as she went outside, with her gun, to see if anything had been stolen. Ms. Ham was approaching her storage building, when Brogden ran out of the building towards Ms. Ham. Deputies say Ms. Ham being in fear, fired, hitting Brogden. Ham immediately called 911 again to report what had happened and waited for the Deputies.

Brogden was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital and then to Vidant Hospital in Greenville, North Carolina. Brogden was last reported to be in stable condition.

No charges will be pursued against Ms. Ham but charges will be pursued against Brogden for the break-in.
