Mobile, AL -
Hunters searched the Mobile-Tensaw Delta for the biggest alligator they could find. The Southwest Alabama gator season kicked off Thursday night. Boats carrying 150 hunters with tags left the shore at 8:00 p.m. Some were successful on the first night, because 19 gators were brought in and weighed. The Alabama Department of Conservation tells News 5 the largest gator weighed 644 pounds. It was more than 12 feet long.
The season for our area runs through Sunday and then picks back up on Thursday. It's only for two weekends. Eligible hunters can catch and keep only one alligator.
News 5's J.B. Biunno rode along with some gator hunters last night and will have a full report on News 5 at 5:00 and 6:00. You can also check WKRG's facebook fan page for more updates. http://on.fb.me/1l8HMdL
