FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Cumberland County Sheriff's Narcotics Agents have arrested a Fayetteville man on charges that he stole pain medication from a quadriplegic patient who is also his sister-in-law's fiancé.

Joseph Theodore Cooper, 28, of Bragg Boulevard was arrested Tuesday after agents found a plastic baggy with 10 of the narcotic caplets on his person.

Cooper has stolen at least 30 Percocet pills at a time from the quadriplegic, authorities said.

Percocet is used to relieve moderate or severe pain but can also be abused by drug addicts.

Cooper is charged with felony trafficking of opium or heroin. He is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond. Cooper will make a first court appearance on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Detention Center courtroom.
