TAMPA, FL (WFLA) - A handful of Bay area celebrities went bowling for a very worthy cause Saturday afternoon in Tampa.

They took part in an event at Pin Chasers on North Armenia to support the launch of the community campaign ‘Be Hope to My Hungry Neighbor.' Proceeds from the ‘Celebrity Bowl-A-Thon' will benefit Metropolitan Ministries.

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman also rolled a few frames as did News Channel 8 Chief Meteorologist Steve Jerve and anchors Stacie Schaible and Keith Cate.

Metropolitan Ministries are raising funds in preparation for the Holiday season. The organization will serve approximately 20,000 Bay area families and officials with the group say they can provide a meal for just $1.76.

Assisting in the sponsorship for Saturday's event were several Bay area businesses including Clear Channel, the Laser Spine Institute, Ferman Auto and the Hill-Ward-Henderson Law Firm.
