At 5 PM Wednesday, the center of Hurricane Cristobal was passing about 300 miles east of Cape Hatteras. The storm will continue to push out to sea, and no wind/rain effects are expected in eastern North Carolina. The rip current risk will remain high at the beaches, and a Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for the coastal waters through Thursday morning.

Elsewhere in the Atlantic, tropical storm formation is not expected in the next 48 hours.

Your WNCT 9 First Alert Forecast Team will continue to track tropical activity until the season ends on November 30.
