OPELIKA, Ala. - The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the murder of a 75-year-old Opelika man.

Garvin Albertson was found dead on his bedroom floor Friday around 3:30 p.m. Two of his friends called 911 after unsuccessfully trying to reach him on the phone. When sheriff's deputies and EMS personnel arrived to his home on Lee Road 40, they found Albertson with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the abdomen and injuries consistent with blunt force trauma to the head.

Albertson was a retired veteran who lived alone. Investigators believe his death is the result of a robbery. Friends say he was last seen alive Thursday evening around 6 p.m.

His body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for a post mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

The case is being investigated as a homicide. If you have any information about this case please contact the Lee County Sheriff's Office at (334)749-5651 or Lee County Crime Stoppers at 1(888) 555-7847.
